Tea Production

Kouroan`s owner has been in the tea business for about 10 years and has been cultivating his own tea for 6 years. The process for tea cultivation at Kouroan is meticulously adhered to in order to ensure that customers receive the highest quality of tea with a consistency in flavor. Kouroan grows three types of tea plants: tencha, sencha, and gyokuro, on six separate farms located in Ujitawara, which is just east of Uji. Uji is well known for it`s widespread tea production and is regarded as one of the foremost locations for tea cultivation in Japan due to it`s proximity near Kyoto as well as it`s fertile soil which is rich in nutrients from nearby rivers. Harvesting tea consists of careful selection of the most lush tea leaves, drying of these tea leaves, and packing these leaves for distribution.
